Malaysia was ranked amongst the six countries with the fastest forest shrinkage in 2018. The main threats to Malaysian forests are illegal logging, forestry clearing for plantations and damage from invasive species.
The Malaysian government has since stepped up on measures to increase the country’s forest cover and to encourcage private sector to invest. The clamp down on the logging business posts significant barriers of entry to the market, even for traditional logging businesses.
